Inspired by Bob Geldof’s climate change presentation at the 2010 Australasian Real Estate Conference, Lisa Roberts felt compelled to make a difference to the landscape of the Australian real estate industry. Geldof’s suggestion that she kick-start a lobby group with like-minded agents resulted in the creation of SHAARE (Sustainable Housing And Real Estate). A not-for-profit organisation, SHAARE’s mission is to educate and link people involved in the housing market on the features and benefits of sustainable housing.
Along with real estate agent Jason Featon, Roberts managed to muster support by amassing sustainable housing representatives from nearly every state and the ACT. These individuals essentially act as advocates for sustainable housing, whether it be for a new build or retrofit to an established home. SHAARE’s quest to promote sustainable housing serves to benefit developers, owners, buyers, and the general community. The obvious winner, of course, is the environment.
